Thought I would let everybody on here know about Prokarin for MS patients. I have a 31 year old son that has MS. He was diagnosed at the age of 23. He started on this medication in February 2003 and I can't believe the change in him. Plus the cost of it is soooooooo reasonable compared to the ABC medication. It costs him around $300 a month, $250 for the Prokarin and the rest is for the vitamins that go along with it. The most major change in him that I noticed within two weeks was the improved mental function. This summer for the first time since he was diagnosed he didn't have any optic neuritis ( he was thrilled not to have to run around with an ice pack inside his cap in order not to have blurred vision). Also he doesn't have the normal MS fatigue; it disappeared about month after starting the medication. He has always worked the night shift at his job because of the cooler temperatures, but even then in the summer he would have problems with his vision at the start of the shift until it cooled down in the middle of the night. Since being on Prokarin there were no problems with the summer heat in the early evening.
It was developed by a RN in Washington that has MS. It is for MS patients that are heat sensitive. It is a compounded medication in cream form that is put onto a patch that is changed twice a day. The first patch is left on for 8 hours and the second for 16. They put down a layer of hydrocortisone 1% creme before applying their patch. Everything in the medication is FDA approved. The only side effect that my son has experienced is some itching and reddening to his skin when air has gotten under the patch. The other nice thing is that the woman who developed this has lawyers hired to help patients fight the insurance companies to get them to pay for it. At NO expense to the patient. The major hurdle is in finding a physician to prescribe it. Lucky us, we do have a physician locally that did prescribe it and a pharmacy that does compounding. I learned about this through a seminar that a local pharmacy put on. We are so thrilled about the results that I thought maybe other people would be interested.
